LES RENCONTRES DE LA SEDELLE
The association Les Jardins de la Sedelle presents the second event « LES RENCONTRES DE LA SEDELLE ».
The idea of this event is to invite personalities sensitive to ecology, the environment and the landscape to meet and to discuss issues with the public at the Arboretum. This year our guest speakers are Olivier Nouaillas, journalist and author; Paul Francois, cereal farmer and chairman of Phytovictims against Monsanto and Herve Mathez, local organic farmer.
|
Paul François, a cereal farmer in Charente, was poisoned on the 27 April 2004 by an herbicide produced by the company Monsanto. Months of hospitalisation followed and he suffered severe headaches and coma. He now suffers from serious neurological problems.
After 5 years of consultation with the MSA (national health scheme for farmers) in 2010 he obtained acknowledgement of a professional illness. Simultaneously he decides to press charges against Mosanto. In spite of two charges against them ( in 2012 an in 2015), the case continues and Paul François will appear before the appeals court again. In 2017, he decides to tell his story in a book " A Farmer Against Monsanto" with Fayard Publishers. Olivier Nouaillas, graduate of the National Centre for Journalist Training, has been a journalist for the weekly magazine La Vie since 1981, where he is the director of the service in charge of environmental issues. He also edits articles on ecologic issues for the Atlas of La Vie/Le Monde. After covering the Copenhagen Summit in 2009 and the Rio Earth Summit in 2012 he published two books " Climate Change for Idiots" (First , 2014) and " What Climate for Tomorrow? " (Dunod, 2015) with the climatologist Jean Jouzel, vice-chairman of GIEC. In 2017 GIEC was awarded the prize "Science for All" by college students. His latest book looks at different alternatives to the existing production driven agricultural system and is called " The Farm of 1000 Territories" (Chêne, 2017). He is currently vice-chairman of the association of Journalists and Writers for Nature and Ecology (JNE).

Hervé Mathez, is a local farmer and breeder of Limousine cows using organic farming methods.
A tree lover and a passionate botanist since childhood he has used agro-ecology as a way to reconcile two often opposing domains , he practices farming with nature and not against nature. He has to risen to the challenge. |

EXHIBITION
Julian FOSTER "FROM THE GROUND UP"
"Studying fine art sculpture at Newcastle University at Northumbria I set to work creating natural phenomenons. Such things as rainbows and clouds (nature has always been a source of inspiration for much of my work). There is a miraculous wonder in the natural world, all of which seems to be created without the slightest bit of effort. Within this world each layer has a beauty all of its own, and the detail is sublime. My work is a representation of these layers of detail and beauty, which provoke those feelings whilst witnessing its presence. Creating each piece by building up layers of photographic images and texture fused together with the encaustic wax treatment. I was very conscious of this process as to me it binds together the natural elements of beeswax and damar resin which stays true to being a completely natural medium. Through the wax these details are transformed and become faded and misty, building layer upon layer this creates a feeling of mystery and distance. A feeling I have come to love and cherish since moving to the wonderful surroundings of La Creuse." Julian Voster Exhibition open from Thursday to Monday from 14h to 18h. Entrance free. |
